The best way to become an expert is by setting goals and practicing with deliberate and immediate feedback about our errors. We naturally crave praise for the positive in our performance. Figuring out what is working well is critical to improvement because we want to repeat it. But we learn from making mistakes. The process of understanding errors is critical to learning. You need to compare your answers to the correct answer and note what you got wrong and then think about why you got it wrong. That is the most critical part of receiving feedback. Determining how to correct the error, we learn exactly what we did not know and maybe even figure out why we got it wrong. In addition, what we do not know often can hurt us.
